This month, our resident Laura Nice lives in Cammeray and is Co- CEO of OMD, Australia’s largest media agency located in South Eveleigh. Laura has the privilege of working with some of Australia’s most iconic brands including Telstra, Macca’s, Suncorp and Petbarn.
As part of Laura’s role she mentors other women in the industry and champions Diversity & Inclusion, most recently hosting a panel for Transgender people to raise awareness and understanding.
Laura is a resident of Cammeray with her two children Betsy and Arthur and her rescue cat, Mouse. We’ve asked her some questions all about her home suburb:
You currently reside in Cammeray, how long have you lived here and what do you love about the area?
I first moved to Cammeray in 2019 where I was fortunate to find a beautiful rental house on Colin Street. When I moved to my current home, the new tenants of the rental became friends of mine, which is one of the reasons I love Cammeray – the community.
Anything you don’t love?
There’s a lot to love, but right now, I’d have to say watching the green areas being destroyed to make way for the new tunnel.
Can you share with us your favourite spot for a coffee in the area?
Love Maggio’s for takeaway, the team are so friendly and welcoming. A saviour during lockdown when I was working at home and juggling two kids.
And for a feed?
I like to share the love and eat all over Cammeray and we’re really spoilt for choice. The ‘new pink cafe’ as we call it, or Luana is great and friendly service. Laneway’s food is incredible and I think Eat Sushi is one of the best I’ve tried for fresh sushi. Then of course Giovanni’s and Amici for pizza. Shall I go on….
And how about retail therapy? Any favourite shops?
Love that we have independent boutiques. Harlem and Stone know their stuff and have some really wearable dresses. I’m always complimented when I wear a dress from there and the owners are so passionate about fashion and happy to help you. Hunted is great for gifts too.
Any local hidden gems you’d be kind enough to share with us?
Flat Rock was my happy, peaceful place during lockdown and I’m lucky to now live even closer to it. I also love that you can run a short route or connect it through to Crows Nest and St Thomas’ park or the other way through to Tunks Park. Such beautiful views and wildlife and so near the city.
What’s your favourite room in your home?
I’d say my kitchen as that’s where I spend time with the kids and it connects to the back garden so the sun shines through the house and we can hear the birds and occasionally see a water dragon running along the fence.
Describe your ideal weekend in the Lower North Shore…
Seeing friends and meeting for coffee with the kids in Cammeray Square and then cocktails at Taqueira in the evening once the kids have gone to bed.
Finally, we know you umpire for the kids at the local NetSetGo, how can people get involved?
New season starts in April and registrations open this week. If you have kids at Cammeray, Anzac or Marist in Years 2+ then let me know and we’ll help you join a team with your school. Just at the courts in Willoughby which you can access via flat rock. Come join us.
