The Resident, Mark ‘Beretts’ Beretta

By Clare Barker Wells

This month’s Mosman resident, Mark Beretta, or ‘Beretts’ as he’s most commonly known, is the sports presenter on Australia’s number one breakfast show, Sunrise. Beretts brings viewers across Australia all the latest sporting news from around the world each morning. He is also a proud Raise ambassador and together with fellow Sunrise presenter, Nat Barr is hosting the annual fundraiser for Raise in November.

Raise Foundation is a charity which runs mentoring programs in high schools across Australia to help young people navigate challenges, believe in themselves and others, and shape a purposeful life.

Mark shares his local favourites with us, why he loves living in Mosman and how the local community to support young people through Raise’s Back to School Formal Gala Dinner.

How long have you lived here and why did you choose Mosman?

We have been in the area for 20 years since moving up from Melbourne. We just liked the space, family feel, shops, schools and community.

Best thing about the area?

Walking paths around the Harbour, and Balmoral Beach.

What’s your favourite café/restaurant in Mosman?

The Pavilion. Great food, views, and friendly staff!

Where do you like to have a drink in the area?

The Buena outdoor tables in summer!

Any local hidden gems you’d be kind enough to share with us?

Kojiro Japanese and Basil Nut Thai. Both outstanding.

What’s your favourite room at home and why?

My study. It’s my little escape room filled with a few good memories. Followed closely by the bedroom because of my great love of sleep!

What’s your perfect weekend?

Kicking off with a morning bike ride, then a swim, a BBQ lunch, a sneaky afternoon snooze, an afternoon walk and an end of day beer as the sun sets.

And can you tell us about being a Raise ambassador?

I’ve been involved with Raise since it started, so I’ve been lucky to see the uplifting impact a mentor has on a young person. Raise has big plans to offer mentoring in every secondary school across Australia, and I’m onboard all the way with that goal!”
